Dear Gloucester Mustang Parents,

Welcome to the 2017 Gloucester Mustangs Fall Football Season! I’d be remissed if I didn’t begin by thanking our members, parents, players, and coaches who have worked diligently throughout this off season and prepared, along with our Executive Board, a Plan of Action to continue to uphold the great tradition of football in our great City of Gloucester. These volunteers and their families have climbed mountains to leave behind a great football program for everyone to enjoy for years to come.

Our ambitious President, Chad Zearfoss, recently stepped down from his position after several years of hard work and dedication. He came from a long line of Gloucester City residents who went above and beyond to keep a great program running and stayed the course, maintaining a standard of excellence for us all to follow. For his time and efforts, I want to say Thank You,” from the Hearts of The Gloucester Mustangs.  We are fortunate that Chad will remain with us as a coach and mentor.

We are now moving to a new chapter and onward to an exciting new football season. After a long conversation within our organization, we have come to the decision that our community deserves more. We are making a firm stand this year to create a refreshed football environment deserving of our parents and players. We made a promise to uphold the challenges to keep the Gloucester Mustangs football family great. This process will take investments and buy-in from everyone in our football family, and we are excited to begin this journey with all of you.

After reading the registration prices on the next page, you will notice that registration has increased for the 2017 season. However, please be aware that players will get to keep their jersey at the end of this season. We are excited to offer the players with a new jersey that will be modern and appealing.  We want our players to feel proud and confident as they take the field and we feel the players will be excited for their new personalized jerseys.  The players’ names will be placed on the back of each new jersey and they will be able to make their number of choice on a first-come, first-paid basis.

We understand that football registration comes from your hard-earned money, and I want to provide an even more substantial explanation for the price increase. Recently, our organization has made several significant improvements to our facility, including a new scoreboard and a continued effort to rehabilitate the football field. In addition to these investments, we decided to send every single football helmet to be refurbished, upgraded, and certified in order to provide the safest environment for our athletes. This was an expensive undertaking but one we decided needed to be done. Our players’ safety is our priority. Finally, we have realized that our football jerseys, after two full seasons of use, needed to be upgraded.  We understood that the costs of such a venture would of had to be passed on to the parents, and we were not comfortable placing an extra burden on our hard working parents.  As an alternative, we decided to increase the registration fee but give you a quality jersey to keep in return.

Of all youth sports, football continues to be the one that requires the largest investment from the community each year. Each player requires $280.00 in equipment. Additionally, football insurance has been increasing each year. No other sport provides you with up to date and certified equipment at no cost directly to the parents. I hope that you all see, as I do, that we have the primary and important responsibility to provide safe equipment, and that requires an annual investment in order to provide the best possible equipment for our athletes.
The 2017 Mustangs Football registration fees are as follows:

  • All Sophomore, Junior, and Seniors Registrations (8-14 years old) will cost $150.00 per player with a sibling discount of $15.00 per additional child. This cost includes a Brand New Personalized Jersey to keep, insurance costs, the rental of certified equipment (including helmets, shoulder pads, and pants to be returned at the end of the season), and $50 in raffle tickets (10 tickets @ $5 each) in order to help defray your costs.

  • All Pee Wee and Freshman football players (4-7 years old) will be charged $125.00 with no sibling discounts. We hope that this discounted price is appealing to our entry level players.

In the case of a financial hardship, we never want to turn a child away. A certain amount of hardship money is donated each year, and we will distribute the money in necessary cases. It is also possible to set up a payment plan with the Mustangs. Those families on a payment plan must pay 50% of the total registration amount by August 11, 2017 and an additional minimum of $25 a week until the due date, which is September 1, 2017.

Each youth sport organization in our great City of Gloucester works very hard to maintain a standard of athletic excellence that hopefully bleeds into our high school sports programs. This requires an untiring cast of volunteers, many of whom are parents that dedicate themselves and make sacrifices in order to give our children of this city the best possible experience. These volunteers are my inspiration because their inspiration is your child. To all the Moms, the Dads, Alumni, the Gloucester Lions staff and players, our Sponsors, and most of all our great City of Gloucester, we couldn’t be the organization we are without you. When most towns are taking away open space from their organizations, Gloucester is maintaining high standards of excellence. We should all thank God that we live in a City with such rich sports history and dedication to our children.

Finally, I would like to inform you that all of our Beef and Beer with a Chinese auction, our Annual Hayride, a Spaghetti Dinner, our Annual Coin Drop, Guest Bartending, Gloucester Day - Punt -Pass and Kick and other efforts to keep the costs as low as possible for next year) will be in full swing in 2017. We would love your help in making any of these events a success. In order to improve the football experience, we will need small sacrifices from our entire football family. I want each of you to get involved in the pursuit of your child's dreams. Thank you all for taking the time to understand how great we aspire to become.  A newsletter with a calendar of events is forthcoming for this new year. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.  If I can make the difference in a child's life, then I have made the right choice in my life. Stay Safe and Healthy. God Bless.
